In an effort to ensure that all middle school students are appropriately placed in mathematics their seventh grade year, the district reviews data from multiple sources. These sources include performance on achievement and abilities assessments in grade six (mathematics sections only), an algebraic readiness assessment, TAKS commended performance, the mathematics class average at the end of the fifth grading period, and all core class averages at the end of the fifth grading period.
The information listed above is transferred to a matrix which is then used to appropriately identify students for placement into 7th Grade Mathematics, Pre-Algebra, or Algebra I.
