Intermediate Mathematics Appeal Process

Parents of students who did not initially qualify for the Accelerated Mathematics program can request a review of their child's mathematics placement.

There may be no other subject area for which inappropriate placement can impact a student so significantly. For this reason, the qualifying criteria for placement into the Accelerated Mathematics program is purposefully rigorous. Each criteria was carefully selected to ensure identification of truly gifted math students.

Appropriate forms must be submitted to the Instructional Services Department by the dates indicated on the forms, for any student to be considered. The links to these forms are provided at the bottom of this page.

Procedures

1. During the month of May, the district will convene a reconsideration committee to review data for all students who submitted the appropriate forms. The committee will be composed of administrators, counselors and teachers.

2. The district review committee will discuss each student's data and make one of two choices:

  • The student will be admitted into Accelerated Math.
  • The student will remain in Compacted Math.

3. The decision of the review committee is final and students will be placed accordingly. A letter will be sent through mail informing you of your child's mathematics placement.

Both forms below must be completed and returned to the Instructional Services Department
