In addition, Trustees earmarked one-cent of the M&O rate to address technology needs. The Board voted to keep the interest and sinking (debt service) tax rate the same as last year. The I&S tax rate is $0.425 per $100 assessed valuation. This means the total tax rate for the 2007-2008 school year is $1.465 per $100 assessed valuation. Last year’s rate was $1.795. Carroll Trustees voted August 30 to adopt a $75 million operating budget which included a four percent of the midpoint raise for school employees. The Board held a public hearing on the budget and tax rate at Johnson Elementary School. The budget included 21 new positions to accommodate student growth and the return of block scheduling at the high school campuses. CISD expects to make a $20 million payment toward capital bond debt during the 2007-2008 school year. Trustees approved operating revenues of $75,353,625 and expenditures of $75,182,138. This will result in $171,487 in surplus funds. Officials say the additional four-cent enrichment will generate an additional $1.9 million for CISD needs. Of that amount about $475,000 will be used for technology maintenance. In Other Business The School Board. . .

Applicants for the Audit committee are required to have CPA or accounting experience. Central Market’s Foodie Program To Help Raise Funds For Carroll Schools Central Market in Southlake is teaming up with Carroll families to support the local school budget. Through the company’s popular Fundraising Foodie program, Dragon supporters will soon be able to shop at Central Market in Southlake, scan their Foodie Card at the check out, and Central Market will donate 5% of the total purchase to the Carroll Independent School District. Letters announcing the program and individual Foodie cards are being mailed to families by the Carroll ISD Communications & Marketing Department this month. Campus principals requested that the monies from the Foodie Fundraising card be equally divided among all Carroll schools. This will allow Dragon families to join together in support of the education system, rather than competing for dollars at each school. “We’re extremely excited to partner with Central Market to help raise funds for our campuses,” said Carroll Superintendent David J. Faltys. “This is a great example of how local businesses can team up with CISD through fundraising, advertising and sponsorship packages. It’s just a great way for the community to work together to support the children.” Central Market officials say every department in the gourmet grocery store will participate in this program, including catering, gift baskets, cooking school, floral, produce, meat market, seafood, specialty foods, healthy living, cheese/deli, bakery, coffee bar, gelato and the Chef’s Case. Please note that purchases made in the Café are not eligible. Nearly 32,000 Fans Turn Out For Carroll, Northwestern Game
Saturday's Carroll Dragon - Miami Northwestern game was nearly a sell out with 31,896 fans gathering to watch the historic Clash of Champions at Southern Methodist University's Gerald Ford Stadium. This was the largest regular season football audience in attendance in the history of Texas. The game was also broadcast live nationally on ESPNU. Carroll ISD sold close to 15,000 pre-game adult and student tickets - earning more than $12,000 for the District's general operating fund. This total does not include online ticket sales. CISD received $1 for every pre-game adult ticket and $.50 for every pre-game student ticket. Saturday's game was the second in a two-year contract between Carroll ISD and Paragon Marketing. The Dragons first played Evangel Christian in a home game at Dragon Stadium during the 2006 season - receiving all gate receipts, concession and parking revenue. The Miami Northwestern game at SMU's Ford Stadium was considered an away game on the Dragon schedule. Typically, CISD does not receive any revenue from away games. Saturday's match up pitted the Bulls, Florida's 2006 6A State Champion, against the Dragons, Texas' 2006 5A State Champion. The final score was Miami 29-21, but the Dragons will continue on with their season tomorrow night along with the support of thousands of loyal Dragon supporters near and far. Dragon Tennis Team Serves Up New Season The Dragon varsity tennis team is off to a great start in District play. On September 11, the Dragons beat Northwest 18-1. Later that week, the team beat Colleyville 18-1. The Dragons are performing extremely well as a team. They boast a fourth place ranking in the class 5A division in the state of Texas. Congratulations Dragon tennis team!

Organizers of the Dragon Classic were delighted when Carroll Theatre directors Roald and Stacie Martinsen graciously donated a VIP package of tickets and hospitality to the September 30 auction at the First American Center at Solana. The package will include eight VIP tickets to two fabulous events. Four of these tickets will provide some of the best seats in the house at The Phantom of the Opera. VIP treatment before the show includes a VIP Sponsor Reception held in the Hall of Fame and a photo taken with the cast and crew. The winners will also receive four VIP tickets to The Phantom Ship, Carroll’s 2nd Annual Haunted House. This event will include amazing special effects, all new spectacles, a talented cast and crew and an indoor entrance venue with a festival feel. This experience promises to make this year’s holiday tradition an even bigger success than the 2006 Haunted Hotel. Plus VIP ticket holders will move straight to the head of the line. The Dragon Classic is a two-day event that raises funds for academics in Carroll High and Senior High schools, as well as meeting athletic needs in grades seven through 12. Now in its sixth year, the Classic has raised over $245,000 and organizers are well on the way to meeting their $100,000 goal for this year. The event incorporates an auction and dinner on Sunday, September 30 at the First American Center in Solana - followed by a four-person scramble golf tournament at Trophy Club Country Club on Monday, October 1. Tickets for the auction dinner cost $40 per person, while the golf is $150 per player. Either or both reservation forms, which must be received by Monday September 24, may be downloaded by visiting the Dragon Classic website at www.dragonclassic.org.

Update: The Phantom Of The Opera
The Carroll Theatre Department's fall production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera will feature the Carroll Senior High School Concert Chorale, a premiere joint department venture that will showcase the singing talents of these select students in a "Surround Sound Choir." Due to the large overall sound that opera requires, the directors collaborated to find a solution. "This is such a privilege for our top concert choir to have this exciting opportunity to sing the wonderful music the score calls for," said CSHS Choir Director, Chris Hutchison. "It will provide a more rich, textured sound that the audience will appreciate." The Concert Chorale will join the cast and crew of The Phantom of the Opera during dress rehearsals the week of November 26-29 and for all performances from November 30-December 9. Tickets for Carroll Theatre Department's historic production of The Phantom Of The Opera will go on sale soon! Reminder: CSHS Hosting Campus Chats Carroll Senior High School is hosting a series of Campus Chats this semester. To view a schedule of remaining dates, visit the link below. Volunteers are needed for Saturday, September 29 when Adventure Team Kids will spend the day cleaning up Meadowmere Park. Volunteers are needed to help for an hour, a few hours or even all day long. Recent rains sent Lake Grapevine from a drought stage of 16' below normal to a flood stage of 22' above normal! The City of Grapevine has filed for FEMA assistance. The flood has devastated local parks, trails, sports fields, campground, wildlife and the environment. The good news is that the water is finally receding and FEMA will reimburse the city of Grapevine $13 for every volunteer hour worked. All volunteers must sign in with KGVB representative-Mary Jo Tellin, and count your hours for the credit to be valid. Adventure Team is challenging citizens to Keep Grapevine
