Assistant Principal Named To DIS Post

Gary Brake

Gary Brake has been named principal of Durham Intermediate School. School Board members approved his hiring during a July 5 School Board meeting. Brake replaces Dr. Doug Brubaker who recently accepted an administrator position with Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD.

“It is a privilege to be named the principal of Durham Intermediate,” Brake said. “The students and their parents are a joy to work with, and the staff is outstanding. I am honored to be a part of the DIS team.”

Brake has worked as an Assistant Principal in CISD for four years – serving the past three years at DIS and one year at the former Carroll Intermediate School, which closed in 2003. Prior to coming to Carroll, Brake taught science and social studies in Dallas ISD.

“Mr. Brake’s familiarity and knowledge of Durham’s students and staff members makes him a valuable asset to the campus and community,” Superintendent Dr. David Faltys said. “We’re looking forward to his new leadership role at DIS.”

Brake earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences degree from Dallas Baptist University and his Master of Education from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development as well as the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. Brake’s wife, Patrice, is also an educator. They reside in Aurora.
