Carroll fifth graders had a 97% passing rate and 75% were commended. In eighth grade, 96% passed while 52% were commended. These scores compare to last year's 98% passing rate and 72% for fifth graders; last year 95% of eighth graders passed with 48% commended. Preschool Task Force Presents Recommendations To Trustees School Board members heard a report from the Preschool Task Force during Monday evening's meeting. The Task Force has worked throughout the year to provide a report on preschool services. Other short-term recommendations included an assessment room for team-based evaluations. Long-term recommendations included the development of an early childhood center and the hiring of a Coordinator of Preschool/Special Education Programs. Task Force members included: Marlowe Bechmann, Barbara Cline, Jane Cousins, Carolla Dillard, Dr. Jeanette Doster, Lara Festervan, Janelle James, Debra Neal, Hien Nguyen, Desiree Noack, Lu Samartin, Michelle Stiles and Tarita Walker. Carroll ISD Parent Survey: Extracurricular Costs Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week Is May 5-9
Caring. Trained. Certified. Thoughtful. Professional. Dedicated. For the School Nutrition Association, every day is Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Day, but it doesn't hurt to set aside some time to celebrate just how special child nutrition employees are - especially those who serve the children of Carroll ISD. That's why the School Nutrition Association has designated one week a year to remind everyone - students, directors, managers, parents, teachers, school administrators - that child nutrition employees work very hard to prepare and serve well-balanced, nutritious meals to Dragon students. And, of course, to let these professionals know you're thinking of them and appreciate the care that goes into each meal served and the efforts made to make sure the meals are prepared and served in a safe and clean environment. Don't forget to take time next week to thank the Dragon Child Nutrition team for the work they do! Dragon Band Hosting Fundraiser At Sonic Members of the Dragon band, colorguard and jazz band will be working as carhops at Sonic in Grapevine Saturday, May 3. Proceeds will help fund future band trips. Band trips are completely paid for by each student's family, so fundraising is done throughout the year to offset these costs. Trips throughout the year include: annual spring band trip to compete in music festival/competition and the Carroll-Tring International Music Exchange. Don't forget to visit Sonic off of Northwest Highway in Grapevine from 4 to 10:30 p.m. - all tips during this time will help benefit members of the Dragon band! For more information, contact Band Booster Spring Trip Coordinator Laurie Larkin at laurielarkin@verizon.net. Flier: Dragon Band Fundraiser At Sonic New Message Sign Board Installed At CES
Carroll Elementary School recently received a new digital message board. Half of the funds were donated by the school's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The board that was replaced was 10 years old and required school volunteers to manually change out the lettering. A school volunteer would have to back a truck up next to the old sign to change out the messages. CES administrators are thrilled to have a new message board that's easy to use and can be instantly changed. Shown above in front of the new message board are CES Principal Stacy Wagnon and CES Assistant Principal Donnie Bartlett. Theatre Department's Dessert Cabaret Opens Tonight

Teacher Introduces DES School Song Durham Elementary School now has a school song - thanks to music teacher David Platt. The song was Introduced for the first time at the DES Volunteer Appreciation banquet April 25. Mr. Platt adapted the song from composer Joe Raposo who is famous for writing music for the hit children's show Sesame Street. '"I wanted a fun song because Durham is such a joyful place for kids," said Mr. Platt. "I knew this was the kind of 'happy-sounding' song I was looking for as I developed the introduction and words to fit our school setting and added the cheering sections where the children shout 'D-E-S.' The minute it starts playing, everyone is in a happy mood." Durham Elementary School was opened in 1995 and now boasts
a lively school song, thanks to DES' own Mr. Platt. The Happiest School in the World 1. If you feel lonely and you need a friend I know a place on which you can depend. A place that’s quiet and always nearby so let’s
