Track Standouts Shine In State Competition Carroll ISD was represented by two champions during last weekend's State Track & Field Championships. Colby Lowe and C.J. Brown finished in first and second place, respectively, in the boys' 1600 meet division. The competition was held in Austin. In addition, Colby won the 3200 meter race with C.J. finishing in sixth. Dragon Baseball Playoff Game Tonight Don't miss the Dragon baseball team take on Coppell tonight at 7 p.m. The Dragons are at home and game time is 4:30 p.m. Details regarding Saturday's game to be announced. Go Dragons! Four Dragon Athletes Sign With Universities Four Dragon seniors signed with universities May 15. These cross country/track athletes are listed below. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m. Carroll ISD School Board meetings are held in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue in Southlake. A meeting agenda will be posted to the district's website Friday afternoon. Game Over: Drug & Alcohol Awareness Initiative
The Southlake Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the City and Carroll ISD's joint Drug & Alcohol Committee, is hosting Game Over May 24-25 at Carroll High School, 800 N. White Chapel Boulevard. This drug and alcohol awareness initiative is sponsored by Baylor Regional Medical Center of Grapevine. Game Over is a true-to-life voyage that begins with a horrific, mock car accident as the result of teen alcohol and drug use. Join CHS students and community leaders for the accident reenactment Thursday, May 24 from 9 to 10 a.m. at CHS. CMS Fine Arts Students Present Peter Pan, Annie, Jr. Carroll Middle School's Theatre Arts and Choir departments are both hosting upcoming events. Don't miss the CMS Theatre Arts production of Peter Pan. The last show is tonight (May 17) at 7 p.m. in the CMS cafeteria, 1101 E. Dove Road in Southlake. Dragon's Fire Results Hot Off The Press The Dragon's Fire school competition results are in. The winners listed below had the largest percentage of registrations for the Dragon's Fire 5K Race at Digging for Dragons' Celebrity Sports Jamboree held May 5. A trophy was awarded to each of the following winning schools to display for one year: Elementary Winner - Rockenbaugh Elementary School The winner of the $500 cash award for the overall largest percentage of participation for the district went to Rockenbaugh Elementary School. Congratulations to all participants! Dawson Students Bring Home Silver Sweepstakes Award The Dawson Middle School speech and theatre team recently competed in the 15th Annual Strickland Middle School "Final Round" Tournament in Denton. For the fourth consecutive year, the DMS team was awarded the second place sweepstakes award. Dozens of Dragon staff members enjoyed an afternoon reception at Central Market in Southlake May 14. This special event recognized the dedicated service of Carroll ISD employees. Staff members took a moment to relax with delicious food and beverages while watching cooking demonstrations. In addition, each attendee received a goodie bag that included a $10 gift card and coffee.
Congratulations to Jessica Owen (Carroll High School) following the birth of her new baby boy. Garrett James was born May 15 weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19.5 inches long. Garrett joins big brother Jackson. And, congratulations to Kara Meredith (Dawson Middle) and her husband, Doug, on the birth of their daughter. Ryan Claire was born May 14 at 10 a.m. Our sympathy is extended to Darlene Bradley (Personnel Department) following the recent death of her father-in-law. Services were held Monday in Bridgeport. And, to Audrey Licavoli (Durham Intermediate) after the recent death of her father. Funeral arrangements are scheduled for today (May 17). Our sympathy is also extended to Dr. Derek Citty (Personnel Department) following the death of his brother, Brian, on May 15. Visitation is Friday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Conley-White Funeral Home in Idabel, Oklahoma. Services will be held Saturday, May 19 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Mission Baptist Church in Idabel. Dawson Middle School student Taylor White has been selected to be part of the Texas Choral Director Association Middle School Honor Choir. Taylor is the son of Holly and Brad White of Southlake. Over 1,000 students from across the state auditioned for a spot in this prestigious group. Taylor was one of just 200 who were selected. This group will perform for the Texas Choral Director Association Convention in San Antonio in July. Congratulations, Taylor!
Dragon Lacrosse Clinic For 3rd - 8th Graders Boys and girls in third through eighth grades are invited to attend the Dragon Lacrosse Skills Clinic June 11-14. USA School Of Tennis To Host Summer Camps Boys and girls ages 6 to 17 have the opportunity to attend USA School of Tennis summer camps. These camps are for all level players and the goals are to increase campers' tennis skills, knowledge of the game, appreciation for other players and to challenge both intermediate and advanced-level players.
