School's Attorneys Conducting Review

Carroll ISD has informed the staff and parents at Old Union Elementary School that the district's law firm is looking into records management, testing procedures and the environment at that campus. Lori Allison, the district's K-5 Curriculum Coordinator and former elementary assistant principal has been assigned to the campus in an administrative support role until the matter is resolved.

Because the inquiry involves confidential student and personnel records, the district is unable to provide more specific details at this time. The Texas Education Agency has been notified of the situation and school officials say they hope the matter is resolved as quickly as possible. The situation does not involve the safety or well being of Old Union students. More details are expected once the review is complete.

Central office administrators met with the OUES staff on Monday and mailed a letter to OUES parents first before announcing the inquiry in the electronic newsletter. Media reports, however, surfaced prior to some parents receiving their letter. School officials said they were reluctant to send a parent email because of incomplete campus groups that would result in some OUES parents receiving the notice before others. Due to the fact this involves a legal investigation, administrators also ruled out using student take-home folders or the emergency telephone notification system.

"We appreciate so much everyone's patience and support as we work through this matter," said Superintendent David Faltys. "We are acting in the best interest of students and staff at Old Union. This is a difficult and anxious situation for all of us, but we want to be sure to allow our attorneys sufficient time and space for a thorough and complete independent review."

April 21 Is A Student Holiday, Staff Development

Last fall, Trustees approved an amendment to the 2007-2008 school calendar that moved the April student holiday/staff development day to Monday, April 21. This was originally scheduled for the following week.

This amendment was a result of changes to the Texas Education Agency's testing calendar. Various forms of the TAKS assessment will be administered the week of April 28 - requiring District officials to make a calendar change to avoid testing students on the first day back from a holiday.

School calendars are posted to the District's website at: www.southlakecarroll.edu/calendars.htm.

Register Your Kindergarten Student This Month

Students who turn five years old on or before September 1, 2008 are eligible to register for kindergarten in Carroll ISD. • Durham Elementary - Tuesday, April 22 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Football Season Ticket Notices Sent

Carroll ISD's football season ticket holders were recently notified of the deadlines to secure their seats for the 2008 football season. Some season ticket holders have three-year personal seat licenses that are expiring. These individuals have until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 to renew their seat license and retain season tickets by paying the appropriate fees. Others who have an unexpired personal seat license must pay for their season tickets by the April 30 deadline, as well.

Any seats that remain unsold after April 30 will be offered to existing ticket holders on a special "trade day" scheduled for Wednesday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to noon at the CISD Administration Center, 3051 Dove Road in Grapevine. Although patrons will not be able to purchase additional seats on that day, they will be able to improve their seating plan if more desirable places are available by trading their existing seats for more desirable locations.

All seats that remain after May 7 will go on sale to the general public Wednesday, May 14. The public then has the right to purchase a one-year seat license or a three-year personal seat license. The cost of a one-year license is $50 per seat. The cost of a three-year license is $90 per seat. The actual season ticket is an additional $75 per seat.
