Lady Dragon Soccer Team's Goal Is State Title
The Lady Dragon soccer team has advanced to the University Interscholastic League's (UIL) Class 5A State Championship game after defeating San Antonio MacArthur 3-0 in Round Rock Thursday. The Lady Dragons (23-4-4) will play for the state title Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at Round Rock ISD's stadium against Plano East. Best of luck to Coach Matt Colvin, his assistants and the Lady Dragon soccer team!
Johnson Principal Retiring After 43 Years In Education
Johnson Elementary School Principal
Jane Cousins began her career more than 43 years ago – before
the average-aged Carroll teacher was even born. Cousins is retiring
this year after more than
four decades of dedication to kids. Twenty-three of her years were spent
with the Dragon family. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Cousins began her career as a first grade teacher. During her tenure, she served on the Texas Review Panel for the Blue Ribbon School Program and was also a site visitor for the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. Cousins came to CISD as an Assistant Principal at Johnson Elementary for two years before being named principal of the school in 1987. “I was drawn to Carroll ISD because of its outstanding reputation,” Cousins said. “And I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for more than two decades in a District with phenomenal students, dedicated teachers, involved parents and such a supportive community.” A special reception is being planned to honor Mrs. Cousins Wednesday, May 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at JES. An interview committee, consisting of staff members and parents, will be formed later this spring to fill the principal vacancy. School Board Authorizes Emergency Repairs The Carroll School Board called an emergency meeting April 10 to authorize campus repairs above the $25,000 state bidding threshold. The repairs are necessary following an early morning storm this week causing significant damage at Dawson Middle School. School officials believe the damage at the campus was caused by an unconfirmed tornado or extremely strong straight winds. The Board called the meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday so Trustees could authorize the Administration to move forward with repairs to the roof, HVAC rooftop units and to cap a gas line. Dawson is operating on a regular class schedule, but as a precaution, the gas was turned off at that campus first thing Thursday morning. Although damage estimates are still being assessed, the total will easily exceed the district's $100,000 insurance deductible. Items that do not pose an imminent need will be brought back to the Board for consideration at a future meeting. The Eubanks and Old Union campuses sustained minor damage as well. Principal's Resignation Accepted Andra Barton resigned as principal of Old Union Elementary School on April 10, effective immediately. School officials announced last week that CISD's attorneys were looking into records management, testing procedures and the environment at that campus. Carroll ISD reported this situation to the Texas Education Agency earlier in March. In the coming days, additional facts about the investigation will be provided in more detail. Carroll ISD will work with TEA regarding any corrective measures that might be necessary. K-5 Curriculum Coordinator Lori Allison has been placed at Old Union in an administrative support role. More details about CISD's plans for filling the principal vacancy will be forthcoming. The Carroll School Board is meeting Monday, April 14 in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue in Southlake. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m. after Trustees meet in executive session as permitted by state law. The Board will consider the purchase of library materials for Carroll Middle School and Carroll High School, hear the preliminary findings of the investigation at Old Union Elementary School, name an interim principal at Old Union for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year, vote on marketing and sponsorship agreement with Bailey Banks & Biddle among other agenda items. A complete agenda is posted to the District's website at the link below. https://www.boardbook.org/apps/bbv2/public/index.cfm?MemberKey=220919 Boys', Girls' Golf Teams Sweep Top Spots In District The Dragon boys' golf team beat out the competition this week in the final round of the District 5-5A boys' tournament Tuesday. Various forms of the TAKS assessment will be administered the week of April 28 - requiring District officials to make a calendar change to avoid testing students on the first day back from a holiday. School calendars are posted to the District's website at: www.southlakecarroll.edu/calendars.htm.
