CISD Celebrates Texas Public Schools Week March 5-9
Students in the Carroll Independent School District will join thousands of children across the state of Texas in observance of Texas Public Schools Week March 5-9. Texas Public Schools Week was established in 1950 by the Masonic Lodges of Texas to recognize contributions made by the state’s free system of education. The Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) has promoted Texas Public Schools Week for more than 20 years. Each year, the event has grown and it continues to be a meaningful way to showcase the many educational opportunities given to the millions of students attending Texas public schools. During Texas Public Schools Week, special activities and events are planned statewide to showcase the extraordinary teaching and learning taking place in classrooms daily. TSPRA developed the theme One Texas. One Vision. All Children. to be used during Texas Public Schools Week. The theme perfectly exemplifies Texas' mission to provide all students with the highest quality instruction to help them become well-rounded, successful citizens. The public is invited to attend Carroll ISD elementary and intermediate open houses during Texas Public Schools Week. A complete schedule is provided below. Tuesday, March 6 Thursday, March 8 Carroll High Cleared in State Testing Review Carroll school officials were notified in writing by the Texas Education Agency that Carroll High School has been cleared in the state’s investigation of the 2005 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test administration. In a letter from Texas Commissioner Shirley J. Neeley, CHS staff members were thanked and commended for their patience as the process unfolded. Carroll High provided “sufficiently detailed and explanatory information to conclude that it is unlikely that testing irregularities were the cause of the anomalies identified,” Dr. Neeley wrote. Four Carroll schools were among more than 600 that received TEA letters last fall about results on the Spring 2005 TAKS administration. The district was “red-flagged” for unusual gains in math at Carroll High School and science at Carroll Senior High School. Eubanks Intermediate was also flagged for unusual gains and multiple marks and erasures on the reading test, while Durham Intermediate was flagged for multiple marks and erasures on the reading test. Eubanks, Durham and CSHS were all cleared by TEA in December. Central office administrators met with campus principals to review testing procedures, but found no evidence or signs of problems with the test administration. The district responded to TEA’s request in writing back in October. TEA confirmed at that time that the identification of “testing irregularities” was not necessarily an indication of cheating or wrongdoing. An Audit Protocol Review was conducted and cleared CHS from further investigation. Second Candidate Files For May Trustee Election Filing will continue until March 12 for the Place 6 and 7 seats on the Carroll School Board. Both seats are for three-year terms. Interested citizens may file for a place on the ballot during regular business hours Monday through Friday at the CISD Administration Center, 3051 Dove Road in Grapevine. Early voting will take place April 30 through May 8 at any Tarrant County polling place. The May election is being held jointly with Tarrant County and the City of Southlake. Election day voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at five different polling locations depending on each voter’s residency. Board Meets Monday Carroll Trustees meet Monday, March 5 in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue in Southlake. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m. A complete agenda will be posted to the district's website Friday afternoon. The next regularly scheduled School Board meeting is slated for Monday, March 26. Spring Break for Carroll ISD students and staff is March 12-16. All school campuses and offices will be closed during that week.
