The National Federation of State High Schools Associations (NFHS) has named Carroll coach Robert Ondrasek the 2007 Coach of the Year award for Texas in the sport of Girls' Cross Country. Coach Ondrasek will receive a certificate of recognition from the NFHS. For a complete list of winners, visit www.nfhs.org. The NFHS Coaches Association is the official national coaches association of the National Federation of State High Schools Associations.
Budget & Finance Committee To Meet Monday A Budget & Finance committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 25. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the CISD Administration Center, 3051 Dove Road in Grapevine. Agenda topics will include student fees and the budget timeline for the 2008-2009 school year. School Board Meeting Slated For March 3 The Carroll School Board is scheduled to meet Monday, March 3. An open session will begin at 6:30 p.m. Trustees meet in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue in Southlake. Agendas are posted to the district’s website 72 hours in advance of the meeting. The second regular meeting scheduled for next month will be Monday, March 31. CISD Celebrates Texas Public Schools Week
Carroll ISD is celebrating Texas Public Schools Week March 25-28. Special activities and events are planned to showcase the extraordinary teaching and learning taking place in classrooms daily. The community is invited to attend CISD elementary and intermediate open houses in support and recognition of our public schools. Mark your calendars for these upcoming events. Tuesday, March 25 Thursday, March 27 Texas Public Schools Week was established in 1950 by the Masonic Lodges of Texas to recognize contributions made by the state’s free system of education. The Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) has promoted Texas Public Schools Week for more than 20 years. Each year, the event has grown and it continues to be a meaningful way to showcase the many educational opportunities given to the millions of students attending Texas public schools. This year's theme, developed by TSPRA, is Lift Off to Learning. School Board Candidate Webinar To Offer Information, Insight Area school board candidates and interested citizens can learn more about the demands and rewards of school board service by participating in a free Webinar presented by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). Throughout February, CISD has been accepting True To The Core nominations for employees who demonstrate a commitment to the core value of “Relationships.” The February 11-15, 2008 Nominees for “Relationships” include: Edie Ezernack – Johnson Elementary School DES Second Grade Teacher Wins $100 Gift Card Congratulations to Durham Elementary second grade teacher Becky Renaud. She is the most recent winner in the True To The Core drawing. For Becky's dedication to Relationships, she wins a $100 gas gift card donated by sponsors of the We Care program. True To The Core is a multi-media community awareness campaign aimed at increasing public understanding and support of our schools. The initiative communicates information about the district's core values, vision and mission through advertisements, postcard mailings, newsletters and video productions. True To The Core represents a message of pride for CISD employees, students and parents. Justo Lamas Concert Is Thursday Argentinean singer Justo Lamas is coming to perform for Carroll students Thursday, February 28 (this date was incorrectly reported in last week's eNews). Justo will perform live in concert at Carroll Senior High School's auditorium before 400 Spanish, French, Latin and choir Dragon students. For more information on this concert, visit the link below. Black History Month Celebration Rescheduled Due to a scheduling conflict, the Black American History Celebration at Carroll Senior High has been changed to Tuesday, February 26. New fliers with the revised date are being sent home with elementary and intermediate school students. The celebration will take place at 7 p.m. in the CSHS auditorium. CSHS is located at 1501 W. Southlake Boulevard in Southlake. Author Jodee Blanco To Speak On Bullying March 7 Parents at all campuses are encouraged to attend a public presentation on the important topic of "Bullying" at Carroll Middle School on Friday, March 7. The presentation will feature Jodee Blanco, author of The New York Times bestseller Please Stop Laughing at Me and the new book Please Stop Laughing at Us. Carroll Middle School Principal Matt Miller said Blanco will be presenting two sessions during the school day for students, a meeting with employees at the end of the school day and an evening program for parents (7 to 9 p.m.) followed by a book signing. In addition, all book purchases made at Barnes & Noble in Southlake Town Square March 7-9 benefit Carroll Middle School. Simply present the voucher below and a percentage of the net sale will be donated to CMS. Project Graduation Seeking Photos For Memory Book

Campus Chats Approaching The Carroll Senior High School Guidance College & Career Center is hosting upcoming campus chats. Campus chats are held from 1 to 1:40 p.m. in the CSHS Guidance Center.

Dawson Theatre Arts Presents Pride And Prejudice Don't miss Dawson Middle School's Theatre Arts Department's performance of Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice. Performances take place Tuesday, February 26 and Wednesday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in the DMS cafetorium. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students and CISD faculty members receive free admission. Flier: DMS Presents Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice Emerald Belles Sweep Competition The Emerald Belles drill team competed last weekend in the Marching Auxiliaries Dance competition - bringing home the highest awards. The Belles tied for first place overall out of the entire competition of 80 teams. They won first place out of their division as well as first place in all three of their dance categories of jazz, lyrical and high kick. In addition, the team received Outstanding Technique, Super Sweepstakes, Winner's Circle, and Outstanding Choreography in all dances with a perfect score in high kick and jazz. The officers competed in the officer division and received Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Technique, Super Sweepstakes and Officer Winner's Circle. Karis Warren and Laura Pearson competed in the solo division and both made the finals. Laura Pearson won first place in the 9-10 grade out of over 100 girls and Tori Bliss, Andrea Holbert, Megan Buck, Emily Giffin, Whitney Phillips, Tiffany Braddock, Courtney Dunn, Jennifer Shipowitz and MyKenna Digiovanni entered an ensemble high kick and were awarded second place. Melissa Page directs the varsity Emerald Belles. Dragon Artists Compete In VASE Contest Several Carroll artists recently competed in the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) competition. The following students received a IV - the highest rating possible. Kayla Babkoubei (both entries) In addition, Allyssa Lacativo's photograph was chosen as one of the top pieces in Division I to advance to the State competition at the University of Houston at Clear Lake April 11-12. Other participants included: Hillary Abbott VASE students' work will be on display in the A hall of Carroll High School through the end of March. Lady Dragon Basketball Playoff Streak Ends The Lady Dragon basketball team's playoff streak came to an end after an overtime loss to Duncanville last weekend. The Lady Dragons played extremely well, and broke several school records - including the most wins in one season at the 5A level and the first 5A Lady Dragon basketball team to win a District Championship. Congratulations to the following players and coaches on a great season: Holle Anderson JES Serves Up Sweet Fundraiser Johnson Elementary School hosted its fourth annual one mile/5K fun run February 16. Participants enjoyed a post-race pancake breakfast, as well. This annual event was hosted by the JES PTO and its sponsors.

National Charity League Presents "In The Spotlight" National Charity League, Inc., Southlake Chapter is presenting “In The Spotlight” - a fashion show and benefit, Sunday March 30. Doors open at 1 p.m. at the Marriott Las Colinas. This year’s event will feature nearly 80 Carroll Senior High School juniors and seniors who are members and guests as models. This show benefits the following local charities: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Summer Santa, Open Arms, GRACE and Christmas is for Children. Last year, the organization raised nearly $55,000. Southlake Historical Society To Sponsor Family Event The Southlake Historical Society is hosting log cain restorer Bill Marquis of Denton County Saturday, March 8. Bill will tell about his restoration of Southlake's historical log cabin. He has been described as a living history book with stories of pioneer life in North Texas. This free family event will be held at Bicentennial Park, 400 N. White Chapel Boulevard on the log cabin site.
