Robotics Team Named State Champions - Again!

CSHS robotics students show off their 2008 state champion trophy

The Carroll Senior High School robotics team has done it again. The team returned from the Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) robotics competition as the 2008 state champions.

Sponsored by CSHS teacher Linda Woessner, the group traveled to Austin last weekend to compete against dozens of teams from across Texas. The Dragons placed first in the Advanced Division Arena competition against 43 competitors. The challenge was to build an autonomous robot that was not remote controlled, but smart enough to complete the task on its own - that could clear land mines (represented by wiffle balls) from a field, and also score points by moving them to different locations with different degrees of difficulty.

The team also competed for the first time this year in the inventions category. They designed and built a remote controlled game consisting of robots, controllers and shooters, completely built from LEGO NXT kits. The team did an outstanding job presenting their invention and placed fourth - just missing a medal.

Congratulations to this talented group of students: Ashwin Venkataraman, Brock McDonald, Justin Koehmstedt, Tyler McVety, Ben Klingler, Louis Peryea, Aaron Elliott, Ryan Schwend, Lauren Gilbert and Andre Nel.

In addition, younger Dragon students, sponsored by Durham Intermediate teacher Chris Underwood, also won medals in the Intermediate division (grades 4 - 8). The team was up against more than 100 teams. DIS earned second place while Carroll Middle's team brought home a bronze medal. DIS and CMS team members included: Allyssa Butemeyer, Andrew Courtois, Asher Sidhu, Blake Walters, Caroline Kinnamore, Chris Knoll, Chris Stevens, Chuckie McNeil, Daniel Thane, David Sloane, Deepak Chandra, Ellie Kemins, Grant Pike, Griffin McManus, Hiren Babaria, Jacob Fike, Michael Hanan, Noah Golly, Stephen Ma, Tylor Hammermeister, Zachary Truesdale, Zack Ellis, Zane Smith, Alex Szal, Bailey Carpenter, Ben Ryan, Harrison Hines, Paige Lepp, Will Delay and Blake Collins.

The memory book is handed out to each student at Project Graduation and is compiled of candid pictures from the 2007-2008 school year. · 2008 senior students only in pictures, taken during their senior year.

· Please identify all students on back of picture or in file name or email.

· We prefer digital files and photo CDs, or hard copies that do not need to be returned. If they need to be returned please indicate on the back of the photo with phone number included.

· We will do our best to include every graduate, in addition to the official class photo, but we need your cooperation.

· You may drop off photos or CD's at the CSHS information desk, front office at CHS (Tammy Stripling), or email pictures to memorybook2008@verizon.net or joannsz@aol.com. There will also be a file folder at 1000 Brazos if you want to drop them off there.
