Monday, October 8 is a Carroll ISD student holiday and staff development day. CISD teachers will be involved in professional development activities on their campuses. Classes will resume as usual Tuesday, October 9. Carroll Students Earn National Recognitions The National Achievement Scholarship Program recently announced the names of more than 1,600 Black American high school seniors who have been designated Semifinalists in the 44th annual Achievement Scholarship competition. Congratulations to Carroll Senior High School students Olumurejiwa Fatunde, Kiah Weaver and Wyatt Littles. These scholastically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 scholarships worth over $2.5 million to be awarded next spring. Approximately 1,300 Semifinalists are expected to fulfill additional requirements and advance to the Finalist level in the 2008 program. All National Achievement Scholars will be selected from the Finalist group on the basis of their abilities, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Additionally, the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) has recognized seven CSHS students who have been deemed academically outstanding Hispanic students based on their PSAT/NMSQT/PAA test scores and grade point averages. Congratulations to Noelle Alberto, Christian Armstrong, Clark Bravo, Olivia Calderon-Stucky, Veronica Calderon-Stucky, Bianca Castro and Benjamin Gojer. These outstanding students have been identified by the NHRP among approximately 4,500 of the highest scoring high school juniors in the nation. CISD Launches New Aquatics Center Website The Carroll ISD Aquatics Center staff is proud to announce its newly designed website. The site has been given a cosmetic overhaul in an effort to enhance communication and provide a user-friendly format for online viewers. Features include special sections for swim classes, swim teams, water aerobics, instruction and more. Check out the new site at www.cisdaquatics.com. CEF Hosting Annual Culinary Celebration Sunday
The Board of Directors of the Carroll Education Foundation (CEF) is pleased to announce its 11th annual charity event, Culinary Celebration 2007, which will be held Sunday, October 7 at the Hyatt Regency - DFW Airport. This fabulous culinary event will feature over 25 Metroplex chefs preparing their signature gourmet cuisines, which will be accompanied by specialty wines and cocktails. In addition, Culinary Celebration 2007 will offer a variety of unique items to the highest bidder in both live and silent auctions. Culinary Celebration 2006 raised over $300,000, which was used to provide numerous teacher grants and student scholarships benefiting the children of CISD. Tickets are on sale now! night special. This means Dragon sports fans can use their Colleyville
vs. Carroll Varsity Football ticket to gain free admission to the JV & Varsity
volleyball games at Carroll Senior High School this Friday only! Tickets are sold until noon Friday at the following locations: Carroll Senior High School, Carroll High School, Dawson Middle School, Carroll Middle School, Johnson Elementary School and Durham Elementary School. Pre-game prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students.
Also, mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 23 to attend the Lady Dragon volleyball team's Pink Out game. Freshman, JV and varsity players have all been raising funds throughout the season to donate to breast cancer research. Fans wearing pink at the October 23 game will receive free admission and receive a special pink rally rag. Activities that night will include performances from the Dragon band drum line and cheerleaders as well as a drawing for prizes such as a CSHS parking pass, VIP theatare tickets, Visa gift cards and much more. Shuttle Service Available For Friday's Game A complimentary shuttle service will be available for Dragon fans during Friday night's football game at Colleyville Heritage's Stadium. Shuttle buses will run from the north and south parking lots of Dragon Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. until one hour after the game concludes. The shuttle service and parking are free. Dragon-Panther Game On KKGM, Web Metro Sports Communications will carry the live radio broadcast of this Friday’s Dragon game against the Colleyville Heritage Panthers. The game can be heard on KKGM 1630-AM. Airtime is 7 p.m. and kick off is 7:30 p.m. The game can also be heard worldwide online at www.kkgmam.com. Chuck Kelly and Kelly Milligan will handle the play-by-play duties with Travis Smith on the sidelines. Football Game Against Grapevine To Be Televised Grapevine-Colleyville ISD officials announced today that the Grapevine Mustang vs. Carroll Dragon football game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest. Because of the TV broadcast, the game will be moved up one day to Thursday, November 1. The kick off time has not yet been confirmed. The game will be played at GCISD's Mustang-Panther Stadium and complimentary shuttles will run from Dragon Stadium that evening for Carroll fans. The freshman and junior varsity games that were originally scheduled to take place November 1 have been moved to Wednesday, October 31. The locations of these games remain the same. This is Grapevine-Colleyville ISD's television broadcast agreement, however, Carroll will receive a 30-second promotional slot during the broadcast. Trustees will meet Monday, October 15 for a regular School Board meeting. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m. Board meetings are held in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue. Trustees will be recognizing National Merit Semifinalists that evening. A complete meeting agenda will be posted to the District's website 72 hours in advance. Haunted House Phantom Ship Sets Sail Friday
The Carroll Theatre Department's Haunted House Phantom Ship opens Friday, October 5 with performances continuing through October 31. Haunted House tickets are available online at www.dragondrama.net. A $1 convenience charge is applied to each online ticket purchased. Tickets are also available during lunch in the cafeterias of CHS and CSHS. All tickets, whether purchased online or in person, are $10 each. Tickets to The Phantom of the Opera are $15 and may be purchased online at www.dragondrama.net beginning today (October 4). In addition, tickets to both productions may also be purchased at CSHS October 10, 11, 18 and 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Prepare to be scared and beware, The Phantom of the Opera! For a complete schedule, click the link below. Haunted House Phantom Ship flier Theatre Department Hosts Two-Day Concert Debut
The Carroll Theatre Department's production of The Phantom of the Opera had its first concert performance of two famous choral numbers from the show. "Masquerade" and "The Phantom of the Opera" were performed at the unveiling of the department's Season Sponsorship Package September 26-27 in the CSHS Auditorium. Attended by over 100 parents over the course of two evenings, Thespian Board President Nashae Dixon and Vice President Robert Hudson encouraged parents to help the students and the department seek sponsors for the department's historic season of shows. "It was amazing to see and hear how far the students have come after just four weeks of rehearsal," said Carroll Theatre Co-Director Stacie Martinsen. In addition to the choral performance, Fighting ghosts and pirates also took the stage and demonstrated a sequence from their swashbuckling beginning to the Haunted House's The Phantom Ship. "Students have been through an amazing two weeks of choreography rehearsals with L.A. fight choreographer Ken Merckx and the work they have put in with their weapon work truly shows," said Roald Martinsen, Carroll Theatre Co-Director. The Haunted House opens October 5 with performances continuing through October 31. PTSO Fundraiser To Benefit Theatre Department, Project Graduation
The CHS/CSHS Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) is hosting a fundraiser for the benefit of the Carroll Theatre Department and Project Graduation. The prize is a brand new 2008 Toyota Scion XD. The drawing for the prize will occur at 4 p.m. Friday, December 14 in front of CSHS. The car, which is tax, title, and license-free, has been generously donated by Texas Toyota. It is black with groovy green detailing in honor of Dragon colors. Donation tickets are $20 each and can be purchased starting Saturday, October 6 at the CSHS Haunted House. Be on the lookout for the car, which will be making community appearances at the Homecoming Parade, Homecoming Dance, Oktoberfest and many more school-related events! Southlake Style magazine recently donated $4,000 to Carroll ISD's We Care program. These funds were made possible because of a promotional event developed by magazine owners Mike and Nicole Tesoriero. The duo secured advertising sponsorships to wrap Mike’s truck to display during Southlake Style's promotional night at the September 28 Dragon football game. All proceeds from the sponsorships, as well as on-site donations, went toward funding We Care projects. SPACE Announces October Guest Speaker Southlake Parents for Academic Excellence (SPACE) is proud to announce Dr. Lowell Strike, CISD Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, as the group's October meeting speaker. Dr. Strike will speak at the general membership meeting Thursday, October 11 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held in Room 3D of Southlake Town Hall. This event is free of charge and open to all current members as well as those who may be interested in joining SPACE. Dr. Strike will explain the responsibilities of his new position and the District’s commitment to serve all students, including those in advanced academic programs, and in the gifted program Quest. He will also share the vision and mission of the District and how that relates to service to parents and students. to think about the warmth of a winter coat. . .but flash forward a few
months, and imagine a small child without the warmth of a
jacket
or a coat on a cold day. By collecting the coats and jackets early, CMS can have them to those in need before the cold season hits. The entire Carroll community is invited to participate. Seven Students Advance In Choir Competition Thirteen Dragon All-District choir members auditioned for the All-Region Choir September 29. Congratulations to the following seven students who advanced in the competition. These talented singers will compete November 2 in the Pre-Area Round auditions.

Dawson Middle School's seventh grade volleyball team came home with a first place win after competing in the Texas Open Tournament in Allen September 22. The A-team won the championship without losing a Tournament MVPs were Amber Team members include: Alison Savage, Emily Harvell, Beth Haney, Kersten Kober, Maddie McCollough, Rebecca Koogler, Corey McCormack, Amber Bosworth, Courtney Ensch and Blessing Anderson. The team is coached by Alissa Asaff and Curri Hildebrand Carroll Elementary Enjoying New Secret Garden Stop by Carroll Elementary to visit the school's new pond at the CES Secret Garden. Last May, parent Dianne Tovey and the Beautification Committee took on the project of rejuvenating the campus pond. The pump had stopped working and the fish needed to be relocated. Thanks to Environmental Enhancement for accepting the challenge and donating some of the materials and labor, CES students now have a beautiful new pond to enjoy.
