Trustees Meet Monday, Board Recognition Planned CISD Trustees will be honored during Monday’s School Board meeting in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue. Open session begins at approximately 6:30 p.m. and the recognition will take place shortly thereafter. A complete meeting agenda will be posted to the district's website Friday afternoon. “Serving on a local school board is no easy task, especially in today’s climate of change and economic uncertainties. It’s a huge responsibility, one which has an effect on virtually every aspect of our schools,” said CISD Superintendent Dr. David J. Faltys. “In January, we encourage our community to help honor the contributions and dedication of our local school board members. These locally elected citizens, who work without pay, make decisions that influence and direct the education of our youth.” The men and women serving Carroll ISD are: Erin Shoupp, Board President; Sherri Williams, Vice President; Craig Rothmeier, Secretary; Sue Armstrong, Bernie Ausdenmoore, Danny Gilpin and Rob Glover. Community Celebration To Honor Dragon Football Team The event will include refreshments and a chance to get autographs from your favorite Dragon players. Following the reception, community members are invited to watch the varsity boys' and girls' basketball teams take on Central High School in the CSHS gym at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. The Dragon football team will also be recognized at the January 22 School Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue. Winter Blast Rearranges Semester Exam Schedule Semester exams originally scheduled to take place Wednesday, were rescheduled for today, January 18. Students will take their remaining exams Monday, January 22. Monday will be a full day of school, with a modified bell schedule to include the exams. Schedules for students in grades K-6 remain unchanged. Tomorrow (January 19) remains a student holiday and staff development day. Carroll Theatre Presents The Pajama Game The Pajama Game involves over 125 Carroll students who have rehearsed since October. The musical is student-driven by choreographer Woodie Blackburn, a junior at CSHS and senior set designers Paige Hathaway and Amanda Hopkins. Senior Joe Nagel is the lighting designer, sophomore Chris Yoli is the student director and freshman Norma King is the assistant student director. Roald and Stacie Martinsen, Carroll Theatre Co-Directors, have encouraged the students to commit themselves to Project: Full House—an attempt to sell out every performance through ticket sales and community sponsorships. The theatre department, in connection with the band and choir departments, is trying to raise enough funds to install an Orchestra Pit Filler for the auditorium and riser seating for the Black Box Theatre. “It is our sincere hope that the students, especially the graduating seniors, can contribute to improving the fine arts facilities and leaving an inspiring legacy for future theatre students to emulate” said the Martinsens. The Pajama Game show synopsis: Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful, as sparks fly between new superintendent Sid Sorokin and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 1/2 cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well. Bright and brassy, this unconventional, fast-paced Broadway favorite is brimming with songs and dances which have become popular and musical theatre standards; the show features plenty of splashy, fun production numbers. For solid, classical musical comedy, it's hard to beat The Pajama Game. Carroll Theatre Department's The Pajama Game Flier
