Trustees Meet Monday, Board Recognition Planned

Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed January as School Board Recognition Month and Carroll ISD is joining other districts across the state to gratefully acknowledge local trustees’ unfailing commitment to communities and schools.

CISD Trustees will be honored during Monday’s School Board meeting in the auditorium of Johnson Elementary School, 1301 N. Carroll Avenue. Open session begins at approximately 6:30 p.m. and the recognition will take place shortly thereafter. A complete meeting agenda will be posted to the district's website Friday afternoon.

“Serving on a local school board is no easy task, especially in today’s climate of change and economic uncertainties. It’s a huge responsibility, one which has an effect on virtually every aspect of our schools,” said CISD Superintendent Dr. David J. Faltys. “In January, we encourage our community to help honor the contributions and dedication of our local school board members. These locally elected citizens, who work without pay, make decisions that influence and direct the education of our youth.”

The men and women serving Carroll ISD are: Erin Shoupp, Board President; Sherri Williams, Vice President; Craig Rothmeier, Secretary; Sue Armstrong, Bernie Ausdenmoore, Danny Gilpin and Rob Glover.

Carroll Theatre Presents The Pajama Game

Roxann Taylor & Associates, Realtors proudly presents Carroll Theatre Department's The Pajama Game. Show times are January 26-27 at 7:30 p.m., January 28 at 3 p.m. and January 29-31 at 7 p.m. All performances take place in the auditorium of Carroll Senior High School, 1501 W. Southlake Boulevard. General admission tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and children. Tickets are available at Roxann Taylor & Associates, Realtors and Fit 4 Her in Southlake. Tickets will also be available at Carroll High and Senior High schools January 22 through January 31. The Pajama Game is produced, in part, by Texas Toyota with supporting sponsorships from Basa Resources, Inc. and ePartners.

The Pajama Game involves over 125 Carroll students who have rehearsed since October. The musical is student-driven by choreographer Woodie Blackburn, a junior at CSHS and senior set designers Paige Hathaway and Amanda Hopkins. Senior Joe Nagel is the lighting designer, sophomore Chris Yoli is the student director and freshman Norma King is the assistant student director. Roald and Stacie Martinsen, Carroll Theatre Co-Directors, have encouraged the students to commit themselves to Project: Full House—an attempt to sell out every performance through ticket sales and community sponsorships. The theatre department, in connection with the band and choir departments, is trying to raise enough funds to install an Orchestra Pit Filler for the auditorium and riser seating for the Black Box Theatre.

“It is our sincere hope that the students, especially the graduating seniors, can contribute to improving the fine arts facilities and leaving an inspiring legacy for future theatre students to emulate” said the Martinsens.

The Pajama Game show synopsis: Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful, as sparks fly between new superintendent Sid Sorokin and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 1/2 cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well. Bright and brassy, this unconventional, fast-paced Broadway favorite is brimming with songs and dances which have become popular and musical theatre standards; the show features plenty of splashy, fun production numbers. For solid, classical musical comedy, it's hard to beat The Pajama Game.
