About Our Program
Free and Reduced Priced MealsStudents may qualify for free and reduced ($.40) priced meals (choice of three basic lunches) based on their household income. Applications are given to all students (PK-8) at the beginning of the school year. Applications are available at the front office at the high school and senior high, Administration building, and the Child Nutrition Office or by clicking on the link below. >> Letter to Parent/Guardian About Free and Reduced Lunches 2009-2010 Lunch Payment/AccountsParents/students can prepay in person, by cash or check, at your student's cafeteria or school office. Deposits (credit card payments) can also be done through the Lunch Money Now link. This eliminates students from carrying cash on a daily basis and ensures the student has funds to purchase lunch. Carroll ISD Policy prohibits students from "charging" lunches. Students with insufficient funds in their lunch account, will be offered a substitute lunch consisting of a sandwich and carton of milk (posted on account as alternate meal) Account balances are carried forward to the next school year. If your child will attend a different CISD school next year, the funds will transfer with the student ID number. Account balances and lunch purchases may be viewed at the Lunch Money Now link. The Child Nutrition Café Managers and office staff will be glad to post special " alerts " to your student's account. (posted alerts stay with the student identification number, unless removal is requested by parent/guardian) Carroll ISD's recipe for school lunches is made to order. Parents are helping us select healthy choices that are nutritional and yet "apeeling" to kids!
Health Advisory CommitteeThe Child Nutrition Dept. works closely with Carroll ISD Student Healthy Advisory Committee in providing guidance in the development of health and physical eucation programs which encourage responsible, healthy standards of life. Why do we serve three choices daily? Numerous studies indicate that students who eat a healthy-well balanced breakfast/lunch have 1) fewer absences 2) perform better academically 3) make fewer trips to school nurses and 4) have fewer disciplinary problems. CISD offers choices for students with special dietary restrictions. USDA reimburses our program $.25 for a complete meal (which contributes to program being self-sufficient) Good nutrition and academic success go hand-in hand. Our goal is not only to provide students with healthy, well-balanced meals, but also to support nutrition education to students so they are able to make healthy food choices throughout their lives. Our menus are planned so that meals provide nutrients needed daily according to the Food & Nutrition Division of Texas Dept. of Agriculture.
