Points of Pride

Carroll ISD Earns Exemplary Rating

  • Carroll ISD is a K-12 public school system located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The 21-square-mile district consists of 11 schools serving more than 7,900 students and 1,000 employees. The district is rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. In fact, CISD is the largest Exemplary school district in the state of Texas.

All Eleven Campuses Earn Exemplary Ratings

  • TEA announced in August school ratings for the 2006-2007 school year. All of the district's 11 campuses have been rated "Exemplary."
  • The state of Texas does not rank public schools, but they do rate them based on performance on standardized tests, attendance, and drop out rates. CISD has a zero percent drop out rate, a 97 percent attendance rate and consistently scores above the state and national averages on assessments. The state holds districts to a high standard of 90 percent passing to obtain the Exemplary rating. In addition, each subgroup must receive a 90 percent for a district or campus to earn the top rating.

Five CISD Campuses Earn Blue Ribbon Awards

  • Five of CISD's schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. The Blue Ribbon Schools include Rockenbaugh Elementary, Johnson Elementary, Carroll Elementary, Carroll Middle School and Carroll Senior High School.

Eight Campuses Named To 2007 TBEC Honor Roll

  • Eight of 11 CISD campuses were named to the Texas Business Education Coalition's 2007 Honor Roll. These include Carroll Senior High School, Carroll High School, Dawson Middle School, Eubanks Intermediate School, Johnson Elementary School, Old Union Elementary School, Carroll Elementary School and Rockenbaugh Elementary School.

Academic, Athletic, & Fine Arts Programs Named Champions

  • Since becoming a 5A district in 2002, CISD won second place in the Lone Star Cup twice and earned a third place finish this past year. The district has also won the 5A state football championship three out of the last five years, the 5A Girls Cross County Championship twice and the 5A Boys Golf State Championship. Carroll is home to the defending state championship Accounting team, a state champion Robotics team and a nationally recognized Forensics team.

Carroll Students Stand Out Among A Crowd

Approximately 95 percent of Carroll’s seniors go on to attend a college or university after graduation. The Class of 2007 earned more than $11 million in scholarships to colleges and universities across the nation.

More than 90 percent of Carroll students take a college entrance exam, with composite scores on the SAT and ACT that exceed state and national averages.

Carroll offers a full array of Advanced Placement and Honors courses, a challenging curriculum for gifted and talented students and special programs for students with special needs.

Last year, t he district had 13 National Merit Semifinalists and 23 Commended students. This is the largest number of semifinalists in school history. In 2007, 9 students were named National Merit Semifinalists.

Mentor Teacher Program
The district provides a mentor teacher program for all first-year teachers.

Training
The district provides a variety of advanced training at no cost.

Pay Periods
Pay periods for professional employees are once a month. Direct deposit
is available.

Carroll Education Foundation
Grants are available through the foundation for instructional purposes.

Professional Development Leave
The district offers unpaid professional development leave for those seeking a post-graduate degree.

Tuition Assistance Program
The district has a tuition assistance program which will reimburse an employee for up to 9 semester hours per year (September through August) at a rate of $70 per credit hour.

Sick Days
Teachers, (10) month employees and fulltime paraprofessionals, receive 10 leave days per year. Donated sick leave bank participation is available. All 12-month auxiliary employees receive 7 leave days per year. Full-time auxiliary personnel receive 5 leave days. Hardship leave, extended childcare leave and extended sick leave are also available.

Insurance
The district offers benefit-eligible employees with three different health plans, contributing a portion of the monthly premium. For those employees who choose not to participate in the district’s health plan, a $68 per month contribution is made to a 403b retirement plan. Voluntary insurance plans offered include cancer, disability, life, dental and vision.

Tax Sheltered Annuities
Staff members may select from an approved list of companies offering tax shelter and annuity
programs.

Credit Union
The Educational Employees Credit Union has many services available.

Teacher Retirement
A required deduction for Texas public school employees is made to ensure for retirement.

Sporting Passes
Free passes to home sporting events are issued to all employees of the district.
