Music We are having so much fun in Music these days!! As many of you know, the Second Grade Music classes just had their performance of the musical “BUGZ!” and will now be busy learning the letter names for the lines and spaces of the music staff. Third graders are currently reviewing previously-learned rhythms while learning new ones, too. Learning songs to sing at their graduation is keeping the Kindergarten Music classes busy, while the Fourth graders are not only learning to play recorders but are also working on a musical they will present in late May. Our CES Show Choir is scheduled to perform at the CISD Art Show on April 26th and at the Sandy Lake Choir Fest on May 22nd. Finally, April 17th is the date that our First Grade Music classes are scheduled to present the musical “NUTS”, so please mark that on your calendar and come join us as we continue on our journey of having fun while learning about Music!! Physical Education
Third and Fourth graders have been working on volleyball and especially like to play Newcombe. Soon we will be starting lead-up skills for Track and Field (running and jumping activities). Then, it won’t be long until we prepare for Field Day (May30th). Field Day t-shirt fliers have gone home and the deadline to order is May 9. Thank you PTO for supporting our Field Day with financial support for ribbons, concession supplies and equipment for the students! Science http://www.nimsisland.com/#/games/ What’s up in the Science Lab? Spring has Sprung in the garden and Kindergarten has made it home with their green bean plants….I HOPE! We will work on plants, animals, living/non-living, food chains and pond habitat for the remainder of the year. First grade just finished a huge human body unit. We are testing foods for fat, starch and protein this week as well as looking at labels for nutritional information. We will then begin working on plants, gardens, habitats of animals, food chains and ecology. Second grade just finished dissecting flowers as well as planting flowers in their own pots to take home and care for. We will learn about the prairie and how it has become an “endangered habitat”. We will do some environmental experiments as well. Third grade is deep into simple machines! We began with an overview of the basic six simple machines: wheel and axle, pulley, lever, inclined plane, screw and wedge. We will do many hands-on experiments with these simple machines in the upcoming weeks. Fourth grade is beginning force and motion. We are making a “jet toy chassis” to test in a variety of experimental ways. We will move into solar energy and electricity afterwards. We hope to have nice weather to make solar cookers this year! We have had a wonderful spring cleaning of our veggie garden behind the building where we are planting green beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, herbs and pumpkins! We would love any vegetable plant donations you are willing to help us with! If you are interested in taking an animal home for the summer, please contact me! Thanks so much, Denise Smith

Technology Welcome back to the Computer Lab! Finishing up the year in Computer Lab is going to be a great time to introduce our younger grades to fun activities, keyboarding, power points and more. As for our 4th graders this is a great time to prepare them for some technology challenges they will face in the future at their new schools. At Carroll Elementary we learn new things everyday about technology while incorporating their classroom assignments and tasks to ensure a well rounded student! Thanks! Art
